Welcome to Sexy Snippets and Weekend Writing Warriors, where authors share 7-8 lines/sentences of a book or work in progress.
Last week, I started sharing a snippet from my WIP, a sexy science fiction romance, tentatively titled Race to Redemption. Since I’m finishing it up, I’ll keep going with this. In this snippet, our hero and heroine meet. Lainie Carter (who is in cognito, her real and very recognizable name is Elaina Carteret) is introducing herself to Erik, and her immediate attraction to him takes her by surprise.
“Lainie Carter.” The new name felt more familiar each time she used it. She forced a smile and tried to make it real.
“Ms. Carter,” Erik grunted with a nod in her direction. He even made that sound sexy. His stare narrowed as if he wanted to let her know he didn’t trust her before he returned to perusing her data on his desk vid. “We don’t get too many females or zoners flying med transports in the Ranhar. What brings you here?”
That predatory focus returned to her and she struggled to remember her new history even though she had practiced it for weeks so it would flow like the truth.

Blurb in Progress:
Storm racing. The highest risk sport in the Terran Coalition…and the most lucrative. Elaina Carteret holds the championship title on multiple worlds with all the celebrity, wealth and male attention that comes with it. After a horrific accident, she disappears from the race circuit and resurfaces as Lainie Carter, a medical transport flyer on Ranhar, a non-aligned desert world. Her risk-taking, rule-breaking approach to her job infuriates the med facility’s director, Dr. Erik Johansen, who runs the outpost with an iron hand, a permanent scowl and the tightest bod on the planet.
Unable to forgive himself for a past tragedy, Erik works himself into an early grave. He has no patience for the insubordinate Lainie Carter, who can’t take an order, disrupts routine, and flames his body to ash. She’s not what she seems and he lost his soul to another who lived behind a lie.
When the facility is attacked, they’re thrown together in a race across the desert to prevent the spread of a deadly phage. As a fragile trust blossoms between two damaged hearts, their pasts resurface and threaten not only their souls but millions of lives.

Blurb:
On the night of the full moon, any male shifter can call the Trials to race against Talia Orion, alpha of the united wolf-eagle clans. Clan law requires Talia to marry the winner of the Trials, a grueling twenty-mile marathon through dangerous, rugged terrain. Talia, the product of an unhappy, political alliance masquerading as a marriage, trains obsessively to ensure she avoids her parents’ fate. Her newest vampire trainer, Hayden Mitchell, makes her powerful even as he knocks down her defenses, and finds his way into her heart. Hayden has loved Talia since the first moment he saw her. As the destined ruler of the vampire clan, he has another agenda to politically unite Talia’s clans with his own—what Talia fears most, and will never forgive him for.

Let’s hope Lainie keeps it simple. At least that way she can remember her story!
Super snippet, Shari (alliteration not entirely intended).

Simple enough. But what one says, and their characteristics do not always mesh. Thanks, Kim.
