Allies with Benefits? #SexySnippets #WeekendWritingWarriors

Welcome to Sexy Snippets and Weekend Writing Warriors, where authors share 7-8 lines/sentences of a book or work in progress.

I’ve been working hard on a new WIP while the editor wrangles with Race to Redemption.  Note this is a very first draft.  Tentatively titled Unnatural Allies, this story picks up where Shifter Trials ends.  Fae incursions have heated up, resulting in the impossible–an all clans alliance among all shifters.  Nicca Baron, beta and lone wolf shifter, finds herself on a scout team, led by Evan Grant, the rat alpha.  When one impossible thing happens, it opens the door for other impossible things to happen. Nicca and Evan, predator and prey, find themselves attracted to each other. Here is where they explore that possibility.

He stood and loped over until he was standing in front of her, running his finger across her lips. Sparks raced straight downward, until every muscle in her body pulsed in anticipation.

“Share my bed,.” His hand cupped her cheek.

“Allies with benefits? Binding us more tightly together to strengthen us as a fighting unit?” she asked, not used to being wanted and not really expecting it. With him, she wished for it.

“I’ll never lie to you, Nicca. So yes, that’s partially true.”

Her heart sagged inside her chest as hope bled out of it.

Come back next week to see what happens.

Blurb in Progress (NB: This is my first attempt at adding humor in a blurb)

Violent fae encroachment on shifter land has heated up. With death tolls rising, the impossible became necessary – an alliance among predator and prey shifters.

Nicca Baron, lone wolf and wolf clan beta, finds herself under the command of Evan Grant, the rat alpha.  Under different circumstances, he’d be dinner. Something her wolf never fails to remind her of.   Evan is one hot, smart rat who proves damn good at what he does. Suddenly, being dinner takes on a very different meaning.

To rule the rats, you have to rule the pack. Evan Grant is a whiz at managing people and groups. Until he found himself leading a mission made up of every single large animal that thrived on rat flesh. And not the kind between his legs.  The only bright light in the mission is Nicca. Her storm gray eyes miss nothing, her brilliant mind comprehends everything and her succulent curves are the perfect place for a rat to hide for days and nights.

In each others arms, Nicca and Evan discover love and acceptance. But a wolf cannot mate with a rat, no matter the strength of the human attraction.

Where this story begins (You can meet Nicca and Evan briefly in my current release)

Talia, the product of an unhappy, political alliance masquerading as a marriage, trains obsessively to ensure she avoids her parents’ fate.  Her newest vampire trainer, Hayden Mitchell, makes her powerful even as he knocks down her defenses, and finds his way into her heart. Hayden has loved Talia since the first moment he saw her. As the destined ruler of the vampire clan, he has another agenda to politically unite Talia’s clans with his own—what Talia fears most, and will never forgive him for.
